Personality: Elmo is no Saint (and for god’s sake don’t tickle him either), named more for the greenish glow we first observed in his coat when we met him, we had no idea how strong willed he was. He pulls, hard and was almost violently competitive, had to be kept on or near the lead when working or racing because he would lunge and bite other horses and jockeys, hell sometimes he turned around and tried to bite his own jockey. Hoods with blinkers, ring bits, flash bands were out of the question for a long time. Any tools used to better control him, settle him down or bend him to our will in any way usually brought about a complete freak out of retaliation. Rearing up, bolting, shaking his head and thrashing hind legs were the norm when he was pissed at the introduction to new tack or exercises. However we actually managed to run him in blinkers in the Florida Derby and he ran like a thing possessed to take the prestigious Derby prep by thirteen lengths. When he isn’t riled up and strapped down with racing equipment he does a complete 180. He is very quiet and usually spends the day curled up in his bedding just chillin.’ At the dawn’s early light he is up with his head stretched over the stall door screaming like an obese child demanding his breakfast. He would be more than happy to rest all day, every day . . . so when the trainer comes with bridle in hand get ready for a temper tantrum. He has to be fitted with the bridle in the stall so when he rears he can be restrained from hitting his head on the ceiling. As he gets older, his quirks are steadily getting better.

Build: Fairly long in the back with an equally flat croup for a looong stride on lengthy but strong legs. He is somewhat lithe with a eweish neck, big heavy shoulders and well-muscled quarters. The legs are built like pistons with big bony joints and well defined tendons, a little over at the knee. Deep chested with a well tucked belly. His head is pretty heavy and bony and well defined, roman nosed and wide jowled, eyes are medium brown. He carries his head and tail fairly high, a prideful fellow. The mane and tail are thick and abundant, the mane is fluffy and stiff and stands out from the neck. His average stride length measures 24 feet.
